BACKGROUND TO THE 914/6
The first public introduction of the 914 was at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 1969. Porsche produced the 914 as a mid-engined race car for the streets. The advantages of placing the engine in the middle of the car in front of the rear axle was better handling, lower centre of gravity, and good weight distribution. The vehicle came with disc brakes and shared some components with the 911. There were two models produced the 914/4 and 914/6. The 914/6 came with a 2 litre flat 6 it had a very short life with only about 3360 examples. The 914/6 is now very sought after car with prices continuing to move upwards.
CHASSIS NUMBER 9142430107
Chassis # 0107 was completed at Stuttgart, Zuffenhausen in 1972 and supplied new via French Porsche Dealer Sonauto. It was original presented with Saturn Yellow body colour and black leatherette interior, this scheme is still current on the car today.
The car was driven in the South of France for the first 8 years of its life when the original owner discovered an oil leak and took the car back to the Porsche dealer to repair, their quote was too expensive and he returned it to his premises, it then sat in dry storage for 30 years. In 2009 the car was sold to a gentleman in the US . We purchased the car in April 2011 and have invested around £25,000.00 in recommissioning the car.
We have undertaken a bare metal repaint of the car as nearly all panels showed signs of wear and tear, scuffs and scratches. On stripping the paint we found absolutely no rust or any sign of accident damage. Pretty amazing for a 914? All of the underside of the car is original and still in factory finish.
