The car was completed at Stuttgart, Zuffenhausen in early 1959 and supplied new as a Left Hand Drive model to the USA via Competition Motors, Hollywood in September 1959. It was original presented with Silver Metallic (608) body colour and tan leatherette interior, the car was colour changed to black in the mid 1980’s.
The first owner was a Mr Carlyle Barth from Comstock, Los Angeles who sold the car to a Mr Robert Ward of Southgate, California in the mid 1960’s. One further change of ownership eventually saw the car end up in the long term ownership of Mr Jim Bahnwig who purchased the car in 1970 and this charismatic 356 Coupe remained in his possession until 2008, some 38 years on. During this period Mr Bahnwig had the car meticulously maintained by Porsche specialists, and this car is supported with a large file of services records and maintenance receipts.
We imported the car into the UK in late 2009 and after a full inspection of the car we have found it to be one of the nicest original examples we have seen for some time. Over the past few months we have carried out a number of jobs on the car including; brake overhaul, new shock absorbers, new Michelin tyres, top end engine rebuild, carburettor rebuild, new front trunk floor, new clutch kit, reinstate the windscreen wiper system, new suspension bushes and full service.
This car is one of the most original cars we have ever seen and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a completely unmolested Porsche 356A Coupe, in outstanding original condition throughout.
