BACKGROUND TO THE FERRARI 365 GT4 BB
Launched at the 1971 Turin Auto Show, the range-topping 365 GT4 BB was Ferrari’s first road-going model with a mid-mounted flat-12 cylinder engine, a layout inspired by Ferrari’s three-litre F1 cars.
Gaining the nickname ‘Boxer’ because of its opposing piston design, the 4,390 cc engine produced 380hp and featured four Weber twin-choke carburettors. Released in late 1973 a total of 387 cars were built until the512 BB replacement arrived in 1976.
The 365 GT4 BB is regarded as the original and purest of all the Berlinetta Boxer models. It features eye-catching styling treatments such as triple rear lights and ‘pea-shooter’-style exhaust pipes, marking it out from the later 512 BB models, which remained in production until 1984.
Together with its relatively short production run and the fact it was much lighter than 512 BB-badged cars, the 365 GT4 BB is regarded as the most valuable and sought-after of the entire Boxer family, making it a must-have in any Ferrari enthusiast’s car collection.

FERRARI 365 GT4 BB – CHASSIS N0: 18071
Chassis Number 18071 is one of only 58, UK-supplied, right-hand drive 365 GT4 Berlinetta Boxers. Deliverd new with factory air-conditioning she is one of very few originally supplied in Giallo Fly (Ferrari yellow) which makes it even rarer as, we believe, only 12 RHD cars left Maranello in this colour.
The car is supported with an unusually detailed history file which is very rare for a 365 BB, the earliest document recorded on the 8th August 1974 from the Surrey County Councils Registration Department allocating the vehicle first registration number ‘XPD 449N’.
The car was refinished in classic Rosso Corsa in 1982 and more recently superbly retrimmed in Tan with black inserts.
The owner’s file illustrates work carried out by marque specialist, HR Owen, Kent High Performance, Foskers, and Terry Keys Motorsport. 30 MOT Certificates show the car has covered around 7,000 miles in the last 21 years!
The extensive and valuable service history details all works carried out during the cars life and is supported with a substantial number of detailed invoices. In addition several sales documents identifying previous owners build up a comprehensive history. The earliest from HR Owen is dated 16th October 1979, selling the car for £18,000.00 to a Mr S Robinson of Cleveleys, Lancs.
More recently the car has undergone a full service programme, regular cambelt change, engine out inspection and detail and a full brake service. The car is supplied with an Inspection Report by Terry Keys Motorsport who have looked after the car for the past 6 years.
This is an excellent example of a classic Ferrari with great history. It could well reward some investment by returning it to its rare original Yellow, or a new owner could simply jump in and have fun. Either way, this is undoubtedly one of the most usable 365 GT4BB’s on the market today.
The BB still retains both of its original keys, tool case, tool roll and radio. In addition to the original manuals there and several period publications and a copy of the car appearing on the from cover of Classic Car magazine in 2001.
Supplied with the GT4BB is a beautiful RHD 1966 FIAT 500 Nuova. First registered in the UK on. the 3rd March 1966 and shows only 4 owners from new on the V5!
The Ferrari and Fiat have been together now for over 6 years and will need to go to the same home. This pretty FIAT 500 has been has been maintained by Export 56 for over 10 years.
