Porsche 911 3.0 Carrera
The 3.0 Carrera was sold between 1976-1977 and built between two iconic 911 models, the standard 911 and the 930 Turbo. During that period only 3687 cars were produced. This was a very small number if you compare it compared to nearly 58,000 911SCs and 76,500 3.2 Carreras that were manufactured.
Of the total number of 3.0 cars produced, 2564 were coupes and only 1123 where Targa format, and only a very small number were manufactured in RHD. It was donned with the prestigious Porsche ‘Carrera’ label. Carrera is a trademarked name (Spanish for ‘Race’) exclusively used by Porsche for some of its models to honour the company’s success in the Carrera Panamericana.
It was developed from the very rare Carrera 3.0RS engine, of which only 109 were built. The engine of this car produces 200 bhp at 6000 rpm and has 188 lb/ft of torque at 4200 rpm. This car has almost identical 0-60 and 0-100mph performance figures to the original 2.7RS and 2.7 Carreras. Due to its increased torque, it pulls from 25 to 100mph in top gear a good 3 seconds faster than either of its production predecessors.
The car we have offered for sale was first registered on the 23rd April of 1977, to a Mr. W. H Cowling of Uckfield by supplying dealer Malaya Garage, Billinghurst., the car offered here is an original, matching numbers, UK, Carrera 3.0 Sport finished in Minerva Blue (W9W9) with Black Leatherette with Tartan Inlay interior, so popular in period.
The Sport Option Pack was a list of M-Codes available only in the UK and included front and rear spoilers, the ubiquitous Whale Tail, anodised aluminium in place of chrome trim, Bilstein dampers, sports seats and wider Fuchs alloys.
Accompanying the car is a large ring binders containing a very impressive quantity of history dating back to the early eighties, all previous MoTs dating back to 1980. A fully stamped Service Book and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. The indicated mileage of 108,082 we believe to be correct is supported by the continuous MOT’s.
